India Announces Pakistan's Inclusion in BRICS Crypto Alliance

India Expresses View on Pakistan's Potential Induction into BRICS

India, a BRICS member, has publicly articulated its perspective regarding the likelihood of Pakistan joining the alliance. Arindam Bagchi, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs of India, responded to queries concerning Pakistan's aspiration to be part of BRICS.

India's Position on Pakistan's Goal to Join BRICS

In a media briefing held last Thursday, Bagchi was questioned about India's position on Pakistan's bid to join BRICS. The statements by the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson suggest that India might exercise its right to veto Pakistan's entry to the BRICS alliance. The ongoing tensions between both nations further complicate the situation as they have not engaged in meaningful dialogues for numerous years.

Implication of India's Silence on Pakistan's Application to BRICS

When Pakistan applied to join BRICS, India chose not to comment, which may indicate displeasure with the move. The two neighboring nations have maintained a contentious relationship for many years, and their leaders typically avoid sharing the same platform at international events.

The Process of Acceptance into BRICS

Bagchi clarified that acceptance into BRICS is a consensus-based decision, with each member having a voice. He stated, The decisions made by the BRICS are based on a consensus. This hint should be sufficient. Bagchi went on to add that a number of countries have applied for BRICS membership and that before this year's BRICS meeting in South Africa, various principles, norms, criteria, and procedures were laid out to guide the process.

Potential Challenges to Pakistan's Entry into BRICS

The comments suggest that India might adhere to all guidelines and potentially veto Pakistan's BRICS membership application. Meanwhile, Pakistan is garnering support from China and Russia to secure its entry into the esteemed group in 2024. However, Pakistan's inclusion in the alliance is likely to face numerous challenges and will not be an effortless process.
