Brink's Invests in Crypto Custody Expert BitGo
The seasoned cash handling company, Brink's, renowned for its bullet-proof trucks, has strategically invested in BitGo, a specialist in cryptocurrency custody. The two companies made this announcement on Wednesday, declining to disclose the investment's financial specifics.
The Intersection of Traditional Assets and Crypto
Cryptocurrency had its genesis in retail self-custody. However, institutions are now investing billions on their clients' behalf, which often necessitates fragmented master keys and physical hardware security modules (HSMs). This is where Brink's, with its secure logistics network spanning the globe, becomes essential.
As the lion's share of our industry, along with the broader financial services industry, gears up for the digital tokenization of potentially various assets, it was a strategic move on their part to connect with us, commented BitGo's VP, Baylor Myers.
According to BitGo Trust President Jody Mettler, Brink's long-standing tradition of transporting cash and gold worldwide creates an intriguing merger for a crypto custodian.
Global Expansion and Collaboration
Having a network of secure locations worldwide is crucial as BitGo expands into regions such as the Asia Pacific and EMEA. This expansion means leveraging Brink's expertise and network in these areas for security protocols and locations.
The recent partnership with BitGo is not Brink's first venture into the digital assets domain. The company began its journey in digital assets in 2022 by collaborating with Metaco, a Swiss crypto custody firm.
The coalition of our two robust, universally recognized brands will offer relief to BitGo's burgeoning client base, stated Brink's' Senior VP of Strategy and Corporate Development, Paul Diemer.
