Non-Playable Coin $NPC

Non-Playable Coin (NPC) is a unique amalgamation of a meme coin and NFT, designed to embody the spirit of a popular 2018 Internet meme. Created for every human alive at a specific point in time, the project emphasizes the concept of inclusivity, capturing a piece of digital culture that can be owned by anyone, anywhere.

Project Uniqueness

NPC, inspired by the non-playable character meme, has brilliantly created an ERC20 token with a supply equal to the world's population as of July 26, 2023. However, that's not the extent of its innovation - each token is also convertible into an NFT at a 1:1 ratio, thereby creating a token with JPEG metadata that can be traded on both decentralized exchanges like Uniswap (as an ERC20), and NFT marketplaces (as an ERC1155).

This groundbreaking design is known as a meme fungible token (MFT), a concept introduced by NPC. It unites two usually separate liquidity markets and allows a larger audience than ever to own a piece of digital culture as NFTs. Users can conveniently switch between the two formats using the dApp, and can either "respawn" as an NFT or "transform" into a meme coin. However, the ERC20 format remains the most liquid form for trading operations.

Project History

The Non-Playable Coin project was born out of a vision to explore the untapped potential of ERC1155s and to break the constraints of the 10k+ pfp NFT collection, which is limited by exclusivity and gas cost. The project aims to prove that it is feasible to scale communities to millions using the ERC1155 standard, and to enhance liquidity for such tokens by rendering them fungible as an ERC20.

Project Future

Looking ahead, NPC plans to introduce a built-in customization tool that allows users to accessorize their NPCs and use their creations as profile photos. The project is also developing new supporting infrastructure to better link the liquidity of ERC20 tokens with ERC1155 tokens, with NPC serving as the prime example.
