Significant Increase in Cryptocurrency Seizures from Tron Wallets
Since 2021, there has been a significant increase in cryptocurrency seizures from Tron wallets and a corresponding decrease in seizures from Bitcoin wallets, according to Reuters' analysis. Israel has conducted 87 such seizures from Tron wallets this year, which accounts for two-thirds of the total number since July 2021.
Inclusions of Recent Seizures
The recent seizures include 39 from wallets that Israel identified in June as belonging to the Lebanon-based group Hezbollah and 26 in July from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, an ally of Hamas.
Shift from Bitcoin to Tron Among Terrorist Groups
Initially, Bitcoin was the go-to cryptocurrency, but our data now demonstrates a clear shift towards Tron among these terrorist groups, commented Mriganka Pattnaik, CEO of blockchain analysis company Merkle Science.
Tron's Response to the Allegations
In response to these findings, Tron spokesperson Hayward Wong stated to Reuters that all technologies could theoretically be used for questionable activities. He further added that Tron does not exercise control over those who use its network.
