Thorough Analysis of Largest Cryptocurrency Airdrops from 2020 to 2023
A comprehensive study carried out by CoinGecko scrutinized the 50 most substantial cryptocurrency airdrops between the years 2020 and 2023. The outcome of the study revealed that crypto projects have dispensed more than $26 billion in tokens via airdrops since 2020.
Uniswap Emerges Supreme
Uniswap's issuance of UNI tokens on 16th September 2020 was named the most bountiful, having a value of $6.43 billion at UNI's peak price. The enormous airdrop significantly sparked interest in airdrops throughout the DeFi surge that year.
Apecoin and dYdX Trail Closely
Apecoin and dYdX$3.13 -1.20% claimed the second and third spots for the most beneficial airdrops, dealing out $3.54 billion in APE tokens in March 2022 and $2 billion in DYDX tokens in September 2021, respectively. The unique approach of targeting particular ecosystem participants enabled some token recipients to acquire NFT assets as well.
Compilation of Top Three Airdrops
The aggregate of these top three airdrops accounted for 45.1%, or $11.99 billion, out of the total value of $26 billion. The remaining airdrops in the top 50 varied between $0.05 billion and $1.97 billion each.
Timeline of Largest Airdrops
The study discovered that 2021 holds the record for the most top 50 airdrops, with 18, a significant rise from the 5 in 2020. However, 2022 and 2023 witnessed a decrease to 14 and 13 top airdrops, respectively. The crypto bear market is likely responsible for this reduction.
Fluctuation in Total Value Distributed
Despite fewer airdrops, 2022 saw a minor increase in total value distributed to $7.46 billion compared to 2020's $7.28 billion. However, in 2023, the total value experienced a 61.1% plunge to $4.56 billion.
Significant Airdrops in 2023
The most substantial airdrop of 2023 was Arbitrum's $1.97 billion distribution in March. Celestia and Blur also made significant airdrops in the hundreds of millions, indicating an ongoing interest despite the state of the market.
Profitability of Airdrops for Many Users
Airdrops have proven to be financially beneficial for numerous users. Although there are some less than stellar giveaways, some drops can offer a substantial payout. If looking to earn free crypto in any alternate way, crypto drops can be a good option.
Platforms for Tracking Potential Drops
