GTA 6 First Trailer Release Sparked Excitement Among Gamers
The first trailer for GTA 6, rolled out by Rockstar Games, amassed nearly 100 million views in less than a day. The release of the game has been officially slated for 2025, compatible with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Although no specific date has been given, the version for PC is expected to be rolled out subsequently.
CEO of Take-Two Interactive Comments on Pricing
Strauss Zelnick, CEO at Take-Two Interactive, disclosed earlier this year that the price tag for GTA 6 might surpass $70. He further suggested that the proposed cost "is very, very low" for the experience that GTA 6 is set to offer. Zelnick emphasized on the value proposition, hinting that the game might surpass all anticipations.
Implications of the Predicted Pricing
If the price predictions prove true, GTA 6 could be the first video game to be priced at a premium rate rather than the customary $49 per copy, which was the industry standard. This implies a significant evolution in pricing and user experience in the gaming industry. It is also suggested that GTA 6 might be the most costly game ever released by Rockstar Games. Zelnick also hinted at the possibility of a pay-per-hour concept, though it could be a challenging implementation. The specifics of this idea are yet to be shared.
Could GTA 6 Break Industry Standards in Pricing?
Zelnick suggested that the pricing of any entertainment property relates to the expected usage value, meaning the per-hour value multiplied by the expected hours plus the perceived terminal value of ownership if the title is owned rather than rented or subscribed to. He added that by this standard, their frontline prices are still very low based on the many hours of engagement they offer.
