Lisa Neigut: Champion of Bitcoin's Future
Lisa Neigut is a formidable presence in the bitcoin arena. Hailing from Texas, she utilizes the Lightning Network, a tool she had a hand in creating. Passionate about sharing her knowledge, she instructs individuals globally on syncing a node, raising funds in sats to support her efforts. Neigut is also in the process of penning a textbook on bitcoin transactions.
Neigut's approach to communication is as unique as her career. She prefers messages sent via VIDA, a spam-filtering tool that only allows paid messages to get through. This method is aptly referred to as proof-of-work in the industry.
From Late Convert to Influential Force
Despite her impressive credentials, Neigut was a relatively late adopter of bitcoin, purchasing her first few thousand satoshis in 2018 through CashApp. That same year marked the beginning of her stint at Blockstream as a developer, following a successful career as an Android app developer. Her first development project involved a mobile application for Etsy, primarily the in-app cart functionality.
At Blockstream, Neigut contributes to the advancement of Lightning, a scalable payment layer for Bitcoin$42,260 -0.64% that aims to make the cryptocurrency quick and cost-effective for everyday purchases.
Addressing Lightning's Challenges
While Lightning has its shortcomings, Neigut remains committed to improving them. She has been actively developing what she terms Lightning v2, or version two, since 2019, to streamline the process of transferring money on the protocol.
She argues against the notion that Bitcoin, the pioneering cryptocurrency, has been slow in embracing new developments. She believes that the largest blockchain (by market capitalization) is on the brink of a surging increase of layer 2s that will boost the chain's adoption and evolution, including the one she is currently developing.
Working with Legends
Rather than seeking the limelight, Neigut expresses her appreciation for her opportunity to work alongside Rusty Russell and Christian Decker, two esteemed bitcoin developers, during her tenure at Blockstream. To her, receiving recognition for her work on Lightning v2 is a testament to her valuable contribution to the official Lightning specifications.
From Teaching Assistant to Bitcoin Educator
Neigut holds a degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where she also served as a teaching assistant in the McCombs Business School. Since 2021, she has managed Base58, a Bitcoin education company offering both in-person and online workshops. Recently, Base58 unveiled new classes on Taproot and Lightning and hosted several bitcoin++ conferences, marking its European debut.
Achievements and Future Goals
Neigut takes pride in her significant progress with Eclair, a bitcoin wallet, in the initial phase of Lightning v2. She successfully ran her fourth bitcoin++ conference in 16 months and launched two new classes for Base58. For 2024, she aims to elevate an additional 5,000 devs into bitcoin protocols via Base58 courses.
Forecast for Crypto in 2024
Neigut predicts that Bitcoin's dominance will reach new heights in 2024. She anticipates the US government's adoption of Tether$1.000 -0.12% as the new Federal Reserve, which will cause Bitcoin to skyrocket.
