Pudgy Penguins NFTs Expanding to the Online Gaming Industry

Pudgy Penguins, the NFT-linked toys that debuted at Walmart earlier in the year are now venturing into the realm of online gaming. The toys will be featured in Pudgy World, an interactive digital playground designed not only for Pudgy Penguins NFT holders and toy owners, but also for beginners. The early-access version of the platform is expected to go live before April next year, providing players with both narrative-driven and open-ended gameplay options.

Pudgy World: Taking Fandom to the Next Level

According to Pudgy Penguins CEO Luca Netz at the recent Art Basel in Miami, fans of Pudgy Penguin have been eager for more interaction with their characters. The forthcoming Pudgy World will cater to this demand, helping to elevate their fandom. Pudgy Penguins, an NFT project featuring plump, flightless Antarctic creatures, was launched in July 2021. After a period of internal strife and management changes, the project regained momentum and in September announced the release of tangible toys, including plushies and figurines, available across 2,000 Walmarts in the U.S. This marked a significant step for an NFT brand into mainstream consumer culture.

Pudgy World's Debut and Projected Sales

It's projected that the toys will generate over $10 million in sales in the second half of this year, as stated by Netz in a TechCrunch interview. The advent of Pudgy World arrives while toy manufacturers are increasingly creating tangible toys with virtual gameplay components for the digital-native consumer generation. For example, toy maker Spin Master launched Bitzee, a tamagotchi-like virtual pet in a handheld box last summer, and Hot Wheels introduced its Rift Rally Game, a fully immersive virtual world accessible to owners of its toy-car kit.

The Pudgy Penguins Toy and Its Features

Each Pudgy Penguins toy comes with a scannable code that includes a birth certificate for a digital 'Forever Pudgy,' a unique character in Pudgy World. Players can navigate Pudgy World using their customized characters. The virtual world will also introduce the brand's inaugural Hero Characters: Pudgy and Peaches.

Pudgy Penguins NFT Collection Success

The Pudgy Penguins NFT collection was first released in July 2021 and sold out within minutes. The collection now contains 8,888 NFTs owned by over 4,000 individuals. Current data from Open Sea shows the collection's floor price at approximately $27,000, a significant increase from its initial price of $90 over two years ago. The collection's market cap is close to $250 million, as per CoinGecko data.
