Denial of Appeal by Do Kwon: A Ruling from Montenegro High Court
In a recent announcement, Montenegro's High Court refused to overturn a four-month prison sentence for Terra founder Do Kwon, who had been charged with document falsification.
Unfounded Appeal Rejection
The High Court dismissed the appeal against the ruling of a lower court, which in June had sentenced Kwon and Han Chang-Joon, another Terra executive, both of whom are Korean nationals.
Arrests Following Crypto Empire Collapse
The crypto company's founder was taken into custody with his colleague in Montenegro in March, just shy of a year following the dramatic downfall of their crypto venture, Terraform Labs. Both have been detained since their arrest, and upon completion of his sentence in the Balkan country, Kwon could be extradited to either South Korea or the U.S.
Appropriate Penalty for Committed Crime
The Basic Court of Montenegro's capital, Podgorica, stated in a release that the four-month prison sentence was a fitting penalty for the crime Kwon committed.
Security Measures Imposed
Moreover, the court deemed it necessary to impose a security measure of confiscation of items used in the criminal act - including passports and identification cards - as a crucial step to prevent the criminals from perpetrating future criminal acts, the court further elaborated.
