GTA 6 Trailer Garners Over 120 Million Views Amidst Controversy
Last week, the long-anticipated trailer for GTA 6 was released by Rockstar Games, quickly accumulating over 120 million views on YouTube. The trailer intriguingly featured a parody of a notorious arrest of an individual known as the Florida Joker. Despite the buzz, the depiction has stirred up controversy, with the Florida Joker now threatening legal action against Rockstar Games, seeking $2 million in compensation.
Dispute Over Character Likeness
While the Florida Joker is known for his brown hair, the character in the GTA 6 trailer interestingly had purple hair. Following the release of the trailer, the Florida Joker posted a video stating his intent to sue, declaring: "Y'all took my likeness. Y'all took my life. We gotta talk GTA, or not you guys give me like a million or two." He is demanding $2 million from Rockstar Games for the alleged misuse of his likeness.
Florida Joker Changes his Look
In a recent development, the Florida Joker has dyed his hair purple, further mirroring the character in the GTA 6 trailer. He reaffirmed his intent to sue Rockstar Games for $2 million in damages for including his persona in the trailer. He argues that he is providing them with the biggest free marketing, and for that, he demands an extra $1 million. He warns that his lawyers will go crazy in three days, claiming to have substantial evidence.
Can the Florida Joker Win the Lawsuit?
Rockstar Games has faced similar lawsuits in the past, with celebrities such as Lindsey Lohan accusing the game developer of recreating their personalities. However, these lawsuits have been unsuccessful, as Rockstar Games is well-prepared legally, and knows exactly what they are doing, with any potential legal repercussions considered well in advance.
Changes Made to the Character
Despite the Florida Joker's threats to pursue $2 million from Rockstar Games, it may not hold up legally. The game developer has not used an exact replica of the Florida Joker, but altered several features, such as hair color and tattoos. This may suggest that the threats are possibly more of a publicity stunt than a viable legal claim.
