BRC-20 Marketplace and Creator Disagree on Network Upgrade Proposal

Bitcoin Developer Community Faces Potential Conflict

A discordant situation that may potentially lead to a conflict came into light within the BitcoinBitcoin$42,260 -0.64% developer community this Tuesday. This happened in the wake of UniSat, a major marketplace for BRC-20 tokens, revealing its decision to adhere to a proposed alteration in the standard. This proposed change, however, is being opposed by Domo, the anonymous creator of UniSat.

UniSat's Stance

UniSat declared that they would conform to the Ordinals Jubilee update to assure that BRC-20 continues to function on Ordinals without diverging into a separate protocol. The announcement was made public on X, previously known as Twitter. BRC-20, a token standard within the Bitcoin network introduced in April the prior year, authorizes users to issue transferable tokens as inscriptions on minor BTC denominations. These tokens, also referred to as inscriptions, operate on the Ordinals Protocol.

Implications of UniSat's Decision

UniSat's decision may result in conflicting BRC-20 standards. In the past, Domo suggested in October that BRC-20 should not adopt the upgrade of the Ordinals protocol but remain at version 0.9.

In response, Domo voiced his concern that hastily incorporating these changes into BRC-20 is reckless, overlooks their peer indexers, and could potentially damage the larger community of BRC-20 users.

Split versus Fork

According to UniSat, a split is much more complex to manage than a 'fork'. In case of a split, the two forms can intertwine with each other, leading to the opening of the Pandora's box of numerous cross-affecting scenarios.

Emergence of Bitcoin Ordinals Token Ecosystem

In related news, the Bitcoin Ordinals Token Ecosystem is becoming the latest buzz in the crypto scene, driven by the hype around ORDI.
