Binance Founder, Changpeng 'CZ' Zhao, Denied Exit from the United States Amid Legal Troubles
Former Binance executive, Changpeng âCZ' Zhao, has been dealt another blow by the United States justice system. A judge has refused Zhao's request to leave the US, as reported by Bloomberg. This decision is due to Zhao's impending sentencing, following his involvement in several banking law breaches. The ruling marks another turn in an already comprehensive and lengthy investigation involving Zhao and Binance, leading to a considerable settlement with various US institutions.
Departure from Binance and Criminal Charges
Zhao's legal troubles have forced him to step down from his role as CEO of Binance, one of the most prominent cryptocurrency exchanges. Furthermore, he faces criminal charges due to his involvement in the firm's law violations.
Binance Founder Struggles to Leave US
The year 2023 marked a significant shift in the digital asset sector, primarily due to the legal predicaments Binance encountered. Despite a substantial settlement and a mandatory shift in leadership, the crypto exchange maintained its industry prominence. Yet, the continuous legal proceedings involving its former CEO have become a focal point in industry news.
Once again, a judge has ruled that Zhao must remain within the United States. This most recent ruling reaffirms the decision made earlier. Zhao's second appeal to US District Judge Richard A. Jones seeking permission to travel was rejected at a courthouse in Seattle. The purpose of the proposed travel and the intended destination remain undisclosed at Zhao's request.
Former Binance Leader Faces Sentencing Amidst Company Growth
Zhao is set for sentencing in February for banking violations committed during his tenure at Binance. Interestingly, in spite of its legal troubles, Binance experienced a surge in user growth, with 40 million new users in 2023.
